THE 2-0 win at Maryhill on Wednesday clinched the Division One title for United as close rivals Bon Accord could only draw 1-1 at Perthshire.

So it was a buoyant side that took the field at Keppoch Park. United wanted to end their league programme with a final victory and did this with goals from Stuart McNally and David Marsh. United went 1-0 up after 12 minutes when McNally took advantage of a defensive error to net from close in.

Cumbernauld doubled their lead two minutes into the second half. Templeton's cross was met by David Marsh, who headed the ball downwards into the Shire net.

Shire replied five minutes later when ex-United player Willie Shand headed past the keeper.

However, United kept working away and ran out worthy winners.

The victorious side take on Rob Roy at Guys Meadow tonight (Wednesday) in the quarter final of the New Coin Automatic West of Scotland Cup. Kick off is 7.15 p.m.
