UNITED won the three points that put them back to pole position in the division.

However, it has to be said that it was never a game that reached any great level, but United did enough to merit the points.

The Glasgow side, having beat St. Anthony's last week, put lots of effort into their game and although they set United a few problems, they never really threatened any upset.

Competitive as the game was, United did most of the attacking and went ahead after 23 minutes when Mills was fouled in the act of shooting and referee Crothers pointed to the spot, with Kenny Jarvis netting the penalty kick.

The second half saw United start with a more purposeful attitude and they took the game to the Glasgow side.

The visitors put up stern resistance, but United always had the answer to any attacking moves from them.

United killed the game in the 66th minute when James Brown in the clear was picked out by a Caldwell pass and from 22 yards out struck a cracking shot into Thomson's goal, with the keeper stranded.

So United get the three vital points that maintains their promotion challenge to the West First Division. Probably a below-par performance by United, but nevertheless a victory.
