United march on

Cumbernauld United.........3FC Stoneywood..0Emirates Scottish Junior Cup1st round replay

THIS first round cup replay was really all over after seven minutes when Bernie Mills and John Hayman had put United 2-0 up with two cracking goals.

The Aberdeen lads put up a good fight but were no real match for United. A stiff easterly wind spoiled some good moves with United putting extreme pressure on the visitors over the first 30 minutes.

Stoneywood keeper Gibson was kept busy and centre back Small played a big part in keeping United at bay. So at half time United went in with the tie well in hand.

The second period was a bit disappointing as the home fans expected more goals. The chances were certainly carved out but failed to be taken until the 78th minute when Gary Gibson fired in number three connecting with a corner from Jarvis.

Round two now beckoned and the United players must have been glad to get this tie out of the way. The only real black spot in the match was the five yellow and two red cards shown to the visitors in what was never a dirty or unsporting show from either side.

The second-round draw for the Emirates Junior Cup took place at Linlithgow and United have drawn a home tie against Vale of Leven at Guy's Meadow. The tie is to be played on Saturday, October 30, with kick off at 2pm.
