Walter Henderson eyes rally glory

CARNWATH'S Walter Henderson hopes to make hay at Saturday's Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally in Jedburgh, round two of the Hankook MSA Scottish Championship.

Henderson (53), of Carlindean Farm, and his co-driver Jim Kinloch — who is originally from Elsrickle — were satisfied to finish eighth in their Subaru Impreza at the season opening Snowman Rally in Inverness recently.

But Henderson did not feel it was a true reflection of their pace and performance.

He said: "I'm very excited about competing in the upgraded car.

''But with no time to test before the Border Counties, it will be a case of suck it and see how we perform.

''After some suspension changes and gear box electronic changes, the car did appear to be handling much better on the Snowman, so I'm looking forward to this event with a bit more optimism.

"A top 10 finish in Jedburgh would be good, or even top five at a push.

"It will be interesting to see how we compete against the younger guys.

"I did my first rally in 1979. Although my head is still 19, my body is a lot older!"
