Whitey Moffat resigns as manager of Carluke Rovers

After 10 years at the helm of Carluke Rovers, Whitey Moffat has quit as manager after Saturday’s thumping 5-1 home defeat by Newmains.

“I feel that everybody has a sell-by date in their lives and I’ll be 64 on July 1,” Whitey said.

“At this stage I feel it is time to stop. Recent poor results for Rovers have had no bearing on this decision. I’ve been contemplating resigning since the start of this season.”

Whitey played for Rovers during the 1960s and had been manager since October 2001, when he took over from Stevie Pillans.

Rovers acting chairman Ian Davidson said: “The whole committee thank Whitey for his service.

“We’ll be advertising the manager’s post at the earliest opportunity, because whoever steps in needs to build a team for next season.”
