Willie Young wants permanent Overton Farm racetrack

THE owner of Crossford's Overton Farm wants to open a permanent national hunt racetrack there within five years.

Willie Young, who is hopeful that 4000 spectators will attend his sixth annual point to point meeting at the course this Saturday, has a long term dream for the site.

"I'm very excited about the possibility of having a permanent track here," Willie said.

"There is a great demand for it here, as central Scotland has a large catchment area including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Hamilton, Motherwell and East Kilbride.

"This site gives people a great access route to the Clyde Valley.

"The dream would be to have a 2000-capacity grandstand built on top of our shop and butchery.

"I think the whole project would cost between 2 million and 3 million to do.

"I hope that our course will run in conjunction with Hamilton Racecourse, with Hamilton staging meetings through the summer months and us taking over between October and the end of March.

"In that time, we'd be looking to stage at least six or seven meetings."
