Midway through the half the visitors began to play silky passing football and were very much in command. Deas had a couple of decent attempts at goal before Mitchell crashed a shot against the crossbar.

Rabs continued to make scoring chances, but failed to hit the net. From a Watt free-kick Team fired over the bar, then minutes later Sawyers smashed his shot against the base of the upright.

Weir then saved from Deas and from a Sawyers lay-off Mitchell fired past. A minute from the half-time whistle Rabs made the breakthrough their outfield play deserved when Deas smashed a brilliant volley into the top corner of the Thistle net.

In the 66th minute Thistle levelled when Lappin set up Marks to slot the ball past McKinven. In the 79th minute the home side went ahead after Marks teed the ball up for McStay to steer home.

With four minutes remaining Rabs equalised when Sawyers sent over a cross into the goalmouth for substitute McLeod to send a brave stooping header into the net.

However, Rabs’ young never-say-die side were far from finished. Deep into stoppage time, Jarvis broke down the left wing before passing inside to Sawyers who sent a diagonal shot across the keeper and into the corner of the net for Rob Roy’s winner – sparking wild celebrations both on and off the park.
