Kirkintilloch Male Voice Choir return from successful Yorkshire tour

More than 80 members of Kirkintilloch Male Voice Choir returned from a very successful concert tour to North Yorkshire last Friday.

Their first stop was at Ripon where they performed in the Cathedral helping to raise funds for the Cathedral Music School.

It was a special moment for choir president Bob Tomlinson and his wife Maggie as the choir dedicated the singing of Highland Cathedral to them on what was their 50 wedding anniversary.

The party then travelled the short distance to Harrogate where they were to stay at the Old Swan Hotel for the weekend. Dinner that evening was attended by a number of representatives from Harrogate Male Voice Choir (HMVC) who they were to perform with on the Saturday.

The concert in St Peter’s Church that evening was a tremendous success. The audience were treated to the two choirs performing on their own as well as ending on a high when both choirs came together to sing Morte Criste, You’ll Never Walk Alone and a new piece to both choirs, Amazing Grace.

This was specially arranged by the HMVC, and a mention has to be made to the Kirkintilloch choir who only had a few weeks to learn it prior to the trip south.

A spokesperson for HMVC, said: “I thought, together, our choirs provided a very commendable concert for our audience, with a wide range of styles of music, and the joint items were very rewarding. In particular, please accept my grateful thanks for making the effort to learning “Amazing Grace” in such a short period of time. It was all most impressive.”

Sunday saw the choir on the way home stopping off to perform at Gretna Green outside the Old Blacksmiths venue in-between two weddings.

This was a very successful weekend for KMVC who were terrific ambassadors for the reputation of East Dunbartonshire.
