Clown school helped unlocked my creativity, now I'm living the dream with debut mixtape
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
Clown school is an unlikely stop off on the route to pop stardom, however for one up and coming artist that was exactly what she chose to do in order to spark her creativity.

Hide AdGlasgow-born Kaeto has earned herself a reputation for creating genre-mashing sounds that don’t quite fit into any one basket - making her a unique prospect on the music landscape.
It has been a long five years since Kaeto, who is now based in London, entered the studio for the first time. Along the way, she took that detour to clown school, before eventually releasing her first mixtape, INTRO, in September.
We caught up with Kaeto before she supported the Last Dinner Party at their sold out show at Glasgow’s O2 Academy on Thursday, October 10.

Hide AdYour debut mixtape has arrived, how does it feel to let it out into the world?
I’ve been on tour and making a visual project during the release so it’s been super hectic but super fun - such a dream!
It’s often been noted that your music is “distinctly your own” - what artists have gone into that melting pot to create that sound?

Hide AdThat’s very kind. I think I am unavoidably influenced by everything. I have started making playlists on Spotify that contains all the music that inspires me: one is a current playlist with things I’m listening to right now KTO; one is a longer list that is mostly made up of the women who have inspired me; and I am working on one that has all of the things I feel have shaped me musically. I listen to albums mainly. I used to go to sleep to Moon Safari by Air when I was 3 or 4 and the first album I bought with my own money for my CD player was Bday by beyonce.
You’ve taken a circuitous route through your career. We have to ask about attending clown school - how has that infomed your music?
I’ve always been making music as well as doing other things. I have a lot of interests and just making music wasn’t an option for a long time. I am very lucky now that it is, as that’s still not the case for most artists and bands. I also did a law degree and used to teach maths, physics and languages to support myself throughout my degree and music making.

Hide AdYou were born in Glasgow, what’s your relationship with the city like?
Glasgow has changed a lot since I left and I really enjoy coming back. The venues are amazing and the coffee from Eusebi deli is unbelievable.
What’s next for Kaeto?
A headline show in late November and more writing.
INTRO is streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music now.
