A weekend of frights and fear ...

The independent horror collective has announced a varied line-up of scares on October 27 and 28.

With brand new attractions and elements being introduced for 2018, the festival is set to be a unique Halloween experience for Scottish horror fans.

The event aims to combine traditional scary film festivals with escape room scare attractions and old-school fan conventions.

Cara Clark, owner of Popcorn Horror and Glasgow Horror Fest, said: “We did an event with students from Glasgow University which was a four-hour event including films and a quiz, and last year grew to a two-day event with films etc.,

“This year there’s a larger ‘comicon’ style convention hub, and an escape room in Stereo’s boiler room as well as all the shows and films going on.”

Cara continued: “We have films – we will be screening ‘House on Haunted Hill’ starring Vincent Price, as well as shorts, there is music, with bands playing old school Halloween music, and interactive activities including a special effects demonstration where people can get involved and learn more about monster make up.

“There’s nothing like the Festival, we have a bit of everything.”

And there is a lot going on...

A brand new interactive attraction, The House With Neon Windows, is set to take place on the Saturday night in the appropriately spooky boiler room of Stereo.

Combining 80s visuals with escape room style experiences, old school horror hosts and a one-off original horror soundscape; this new attraction is being presented in partnership with fright experts Scare Scotland.

And Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without a selection of films to watch through your fingers. World class, groundbreaking independent horror feature films and shorts programmes will be shown across the two days.

Classic, iconic horror movies are also be on the bill with William Castle’s House on Haunted Hill presented in ‘EMERGO!’

The cult classic starring Vincent Price will be presented along with Castle’s signature interactive features – including the flying skeleton, ghouls coming to life in the theatre, and nurses on-site to provide guest death warrants.

Also joining the film line-up is the incredible The Childish Thing, directed by Jeremy Herbert.

The chilling, beautifully shot film is inspired by its creator’s experience of night terrors as a child.

On the subject of nightmares, Nicoletta Wylde will be performing her stand-up comedy show Afraid of the Dark. In this semi-autobiographical show about living with night terrors, Nicolette brings her unique brand of surreal and bloody prose-performance to a journey through the monsters in the dark and just how much it takes to vanquish them.

Making a return this year is the incredibly talented make-up effects artist Taarna Swanson, who will be hosting a demonstration of how gruesome monsters and injuries are created.

Fans of live horror experiences are also in for a treat with brand new horror theatre shows Ghost Story by GOTheatre Productions and an exciting two play double bill from Big Puppet Theatre Co.

R-Cade are taking over the stage for an engaging exploration of the history of horror gaming.

Bringing shocks to the stage is an outrageous burlesque performance from Roxy Sparks involving demonic nuns, crucifixion and fire-eating. Downstairs of the venue will form the convention hub, with a diverse range of horror vendors and artists trading.

Crafts, artwork, clothing and merchandise will all be available from the selection of stalls.

New to this area for 2018, Glasgow Horror Fest is welcoming monsters for photo opportunities. Uniquely, the monsters will be incredible examples of practical effects work within Scottish indie horror filmmaking.

The creature from Creek, a film in which characters unwittingly disturb an ancient and sinister entity in the desolate marshlands of Scotland, will be joining guests for unique photos and to answer questions about practical effects. He’ll be in excellent company as Wendigo’s title monster joins him for a Scottish horror team-up of monstrous proportions!

A busking plinth will also have music from performances and Halloween themed spots up for grabs for local musicians.

And the folks from R-Cade will have retro horror gaming stations set up for guests to relive those 16 bit games that haunted their childhood.

Ongoing demos, raffles, exhibits and a horror book and comics market are also set to scare up the downstairs hub.

Expect a weekend full of fear and frights, unique one-off experiences and two days of seasonal spooks to hit Glasgow!
