Southside actress Elaine Wilkie is in the habit of getting top roles — and Nunsense is no different.

Elaine is starring in the ‘mega musical’ at Hutcheson’s Grammar Studio Theatre later this month.

“I play the Mother Superior, Sister Mary Regina, who gave up a life of tightrope walking to become a nun,” explained
Elaine.

“She has her cross to bear as the majority of her order has just been accidentally poisoned by a dodgy Vichyssoise and she has no money to bury them.”

This bizarre dilemma results in Nunsense — a fundraising concert put on by what’s left of the Little Sisters of Hoboken — packed with hilarious songs and memorable characters.

“The show is a joy to be involved in as the music is as varied as the characters themselves” explained Elaine, who hails from Pollokshields.

“The storyline is wonderfully bonkers, but the relationships between the nuns themselves and some of their stories are poignant and real — among all the nunsense!”

A civil servant by day, Elaine is no stranger to the stage, having played leading roles in productions such as Acorn Antiques — the musical,Allo ‘Allo, The Steamie and Mack & Mabel.

However, her latest venture holds a particular appeal.

“You’ve got to love a show where you don’t have to worry about your hair, make up or costume changes!” she said.

Nunsense is running from Tuesday 13 - Saturday 17 October at Hutchesons’ Grammar School Studio Theatre.

Tickets for the show are available from Windmill Productions on 07813 445 160 or by emailing [email protected].
