Another Shawlands step back in time...

GOOD old fashioned fun continues at The Shed this week with a dose of Cole Porter and musical revue.

Live@the Shed — a daytime, family fun show bringing the nightclub back to its ballroom roots — is on every weekend, offering up a new type of entertainment for Shawlands punters of all ages.

This week, it’s You Go To My Head — a chance for three lively (and lovely) singers to take you through the songs of Cole Porter and some well-known musicals.

The Tram Direct-produced show offers some insight into the origins of the songs too, with info on the lyricists and composers — in fact, you might be asked to offer up some of your own musical knowledge, as the hosts have been known to quiz their audiences too.

And — perhaps just as important — it all takes place in the Shed’s newly restored blue ballroom; worth the ticket price alone, and proof positive that the venue is branching out from its nightspot reputation.

Organiser Isobel Barrett told Scene: “The whole thinking behind is it to say that you don’t have to go into town, or to the westend — we’re right here on your doorstep, and we like to think we’re catering for everybody.

“There’s a heritage aspect to it too. Here we are, at the old Marlborough, and lots of people will remember the Shed by that name.

“Back then, this was the place to be, and now Live@the Shed is part of the regeneration of Shawlands, to bring the area back to what it used to be.”

The lunchtime event runs Saturday and Sunday from 1pm (doors open at 12) and tickets cost £10 — including a drink, a show and a bite to eat - from 637 0778, 649 5020 or [email protected].
