More than 130 pieces of original art, photography and sculpture will be on display at the charity’s main city centre project.

Visitors to the free exhibition can browse four floors of artwork at their own pace, or join an organised tour. Also on offer will be free refreshments served by the charity’s cookery class in their Pop-Up Café. For those tempted to indulge in something more special, afternoon tea will be served in return for a suggested donation.

The charity’s art class meets twice a week and provides a safe and therapeutic space for men and women affected by poverty, homelessness, poor mental health and isolation. The artists work on their own pieces under the expert guidance of qualified volunteers and staff members.

Anthea McNeill, project worker and graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, started the art class more than five years ago. She said: “So much of what we do at Glasgow City Mission is about people who are in crisis and who are dealing with complex issues. The art class is a good opportunity to do something that isn’t about service provision or about anyone’s personal problems. Instead it’s about solving creative problems together.

“We would love to see as many people as possible at the exhibition, for the encouragement of our artists.”

Linda, who attends the art and photography classes, said: “I’m gaining confidence by coming to the art class. When I come here I feel that I calm down. It’s like a family here. I am accepted just as I am and I get a lot of support.”

The exhibition takes place on June 18, 2-5pm; Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 12-6pm.
