Birling for Burns

It could be the ideal way to celebrate the end of what Rabbie Burns called “Januar’s cauld blast”, while giving a key charity a timely funds boost.

Cumbernauld’s Westerwood Hotel is the venue for a special community Burns Night, starring the rip-roaring sounds of popular band Drums n’ Roses.

The event is in aid of Spina Bifida and takes place on Friday, January 30 (7pm to midnight) in the Westerwood Hotel.

The Spina Bifida Association says its Community Burns Supper becomes more and more popular every year, as with a ceilidh disco thrown in it has something to offer everyone.

Described as “a perfect night for ladies and gentlemen to enjoy this Scottish tradition with a modern twist” it includes a three course dinner of traditional fare (in which haggis may well feature) – and “the very best local speakers reciting Burns’ best-loved works”.

To add to the enjoyment there will be a number of “special surprises” to enliven the proceedings.

A spokesperson for the Spina Bifida Association said: “We are all very excited about this event – it’s a great opportunity to be part of something special in the local community”.
