Bold as brass

AN EVENING of Brass proved a huge success at Carlibar primary school last weekend.

Enthusiastic crowds were treated to performances by Levern Valley Community Brass, East Renfrewshire Brass Ensemble and the combined forces of the Barrhead and Croy burgh bands.

Kenneth Blackwood, East Renfrewshire’s head of brass, told The Extra: “It was great for the young players to see, hear and play alongside the older ones – we are very fortunate to have professional and ex-professional players coaching our pupils to a very high standard.

“I would like to thank everyone who took part and gave their time to make the evening such an enjoyable event for everyone.”

Guests – including the provost and various councillors – may have been watching the music stars of the future at the Barrhead gig, as 75 per cent of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland under 16s start their careers in East Renfrewshire.
