Chance to learn about theatre move

Plans for the relocation of Cumbernauld Theatre will be on public display this week.

The theatre is hosting open information days today (Wednesday, March 25) and tomorrow.

There will be exhibition boards on public display in the Theatre foyer from 11am until 6pm on both days.

This is a chance to learn about the new Cumbernauld Theatre and Arts Centre building, which is expected to be completed within the next two to three years.

Also, tomorrow at 3.30pm Cumbernauld Theatre Trust chairman Jim Law will be in attendance to discuss the plans and answer any questions.

A spokeswoman for the Theatre said: “The current building has served the arts and our communities wonderfully for over 50 years.

“But time, audience expectations, and new technologies mean the building is increasingly difficult to sustain both creatively and economically.

“The new building represents an opportunity to secure a sustainable future for arts and cultural services provision in Cumbernauld for the next 50 years.

“We look forward to seeing you at the Theatre.”

A replacement Theatre is to be developed as part of the multi-million pound project to create a new Cumbernauld Academy.

Its current premises in Kildrum were converted from old farm cottages by members of the New Town community in the 1960s, leading to the name of “the cottage theatre”.
