Crawford Gala Day 2014 Slideshow

WITH the heatwave ending and the forecast dire, Crawford Gala organisers took the decision to move the crowning of Queen Adele Chalmers indoors.

They were able to swap the planned large outdoor inflatables for a bungee run and sumo suits to keep the fun going in the hall, with hot dogs on sale and stalls under cover in a marquee outside.

And despite the awful weather, there was a very good turnout.

“We had the parade going down the street and pretty much the full day was then in the village hall,” said Mary Renwick, who chaired the organising committee.

“When we realised we were pretty much going to get rained off, I rearranged everything to the hall.”

The parade itself was shorter than usual, from the council yard to the hall where Frances Henderson crowned Adele.

“Overall it was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves, especially the children,” said Mary.
