Fired up for the Southside Fringe

The Southside Fringe Take Off takes place tomorrow (Friday) night at the Glad Cafe, from 8pm, and will include snippets of the many and varied acts to come.

Running this week are Scotland’s Greatest Irishman — a production at the Shed on the life of sir Thomas Lipton — as well as the Art Village and Art on the Hill (Church on the Hill).

Shakespeare fans would do well to head to Govanhill Baths for an all-female performance of Hamlet (supported by the Royal Shakespeare Company Open Stages, no less) — just one of the many shows on the new Women in the Fringe strand.

Saturday’s line up includes community art project 1000 to 1, by Gestalt Glass, the Southside Spree foodie market, Sean Pickering’s play Harry and Lacy Defrosted, comedy at the Greater Shawlands Republic Party Conference and music courtesy of The O’Cajunals and The Cahoots (to name a few).

The fun continues throughout the week with Pop-Up Politics, sketches at The Referendum Review Show, Who Stole My Sausage (a show for four-legged festivalgoers), taster sessions in Irish and Fringe founder Crawford Smith taking to the stage for a special edition of Southside Sessions.

With events running May 9-25, that’s only the half of it — luckily, Fringe HQ, on Pollokshaws Road, is armed with programmes (also available at southsidefringe.org.uk).
