On Saturday, with fellow musicians Ian Rennie, Gus Simpson and Raymond Maquire, they pay tribute to three giants of contemporary folk music, linked on the grand scale by their equal passion for both songs and social justice.

In January this year, the band dedicated their sell-out performance at Celtic Connections to Pete Seeger in celebration of the singer’s life and work.

Duncan told The Extra: “We grew up playing folk music, mostly in Glasgow’s Folk Song and Ballad Club, and toured the folk scene with a lot of Matt’s contemporaries from an early age.

“It will be great to play the music of these three legends whose music we grew up with. Their songs and social commentary are just as relevant today as back then. It’ll be great to play at the Barrowlands again after 25 years.”

Johnny Cameron added: “The idea for these shows came about when my late and older brother Wallace and I played Matt’s 75th anniversary concert in Symphony Space Theatre, New York.”

There, they performed Matt’s Manura Manya with Pete Seeger.

The event will be hosted by the East End social.

Promoter Stewart Henderson added: “The East End Social is proud to host a night of folk music in the Barrowland Ballroom celebrating these influential figures in folk.

“The audience will be seated and it will be an intimate performance with tables and chairs, highlighting the extraordinary, firebrand songwriting of Matt, Pete Seeger and Ewan McColl.

“The show hopes to keep the folk heroes alive, and seeks to do the same for all three of its subjects, with a selection from their collective repertoire that invites plenty of audience participation.”
