More than a tribute

Then, back in 2003, disaster struck when one of the trio of brothers, Maurice, died of cardiac arrest.

The two remaining brothers, Barry and Robin, called it a day for a while but started performing again and then, in 2012, Robin succumbed to liver and kidney failure.

But there is a group who are keeping the Bee Gees music alive.

Stayin’ Alive were the winners of the National Tribute Awards 2013 for their faithful renditions of the Brothers Gibb’s music from across the decades.

The tribute act do not simply concentrate on the original band’s most successful years, during the late 70s, but perform hits like Massachusetts, I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You and Words, with the latter proving an enduring hit and recorded by Elvis Presley, Rita Coolidge and boy band Boyzone.

You can also rest assured that when you go to the gig, not only are you indulging in a little nostalgia, you are helping a good cause.

The band are playing in aid of Cosgrove Care in Giffnock, which gives assistance to children and adults with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders and mental health issues.

But, for the bulk of the audience, no doubt it will be those incredibly popular disco hits they will be coming for.

One of the most inspired decisions by the makers of movie-hit Saturday Night Fever was to hire the Bee Gees to work on a soundtrack for the film.

The result was a global hit and a memorable flick.

So, listen out for Night Fever, Stayin’ Alive, Jive Talkin’, You Should Be Dancing, How Deep is Your Love, More Than a Woman and many others.

It promises to be a night of nostalgia run rampant and, if you miss it, it would be a Tragedy.

Stayin’ Alive are playing at Eastwood Park Theatre on Sunday, October 27 at 7.30pm.
