New works on show under The Arches

The Arches promises best Behaviour this week with the launch of another bulging performance programme.

The spring festival runs from Wednesday (April 8) until May 17 — so there are plenty of opportunities to witness some groundbreaking theatre.

Highlights include a political strand (just in time for May’s general election), as well as environmental themes to coincide with Glasgow City Council’s Year of Green — also taking the fest out of The Arches and into spaces like the Botanic Gardens, as well as the Citz, CCA and onto the city streets.

Language buffs might appreciate Platform 18 winner Ishbel McFarlane’s offering as she takes on big questions about the way forward for the Scots language in O is for Hoolet. A personal piece, Ishbel’s one-woman show comes in the wake of last year’s referendum and with SQA students studying Scots Language for the first time in 2015.

Ishbel explained: “My show is like a dream dinner party with some great guests from different walks of life and different centuries who want to talk about, and argue about, Scots. Unlike most dream dinner parties though, Stephen Fry is not invited.”

Rounding off the fest and Behaviour goes national, in collaboration with The Wellcome Collection. There are events taking place in London, Manchester and Brighton too for Sexology Season; inviting people to question what and how they know about sex.

With so much going on across the city, it may be time to consult the Behaviour programme and plan ahead for a month of brand new theatre — www.thearches.co.uk/events/arts/behaviour-festival-2015.
