No Flies on them!

The three boys are among 22 cast members chosen from more than 160 young hopefuls, from nine to 25 years, who took part in workshops and auditions over the past few months.

The aim was to find the best male dance talent in the region and encourage young people who have never participated in dance before to give it a go.

Nine-year-old Taylor Browning-Walker, from Motherwell, is the youngest member of the cast. He said: “I have always enjoyed dance and drama, and these workshops have inspired me so much more.

“With an all-male cast, there is a fabulous vibe. The experience has been absolutely exhilarating and one I will remember the rest of my life.”

Charley Austin (12), from Uddingston, who already has some dance experience.

He explained: “I go to Scottish Ballet twice a week, Ballet West once a month and other classes on a Tuesday. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Lord of the Flies workshops.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a show directed by Matthew Bourne.”

They are joined by 15-year-old Paul Kenny from Bothwell, who is making his second appearance in Lord of the Flies, having played Percy in the original production at the Theatre Royal.

He said: “This will be a great experience to perform alongside professional dancers and get their advice to improve my dance skills. New Adventures is a company I greatly admire and I often go to see their shows.”

The show will be at the Theatre Royal from Wednesday, June 11, to Saturday, June 14, at 7.30pm, with matinees at 2pm on Thursday and 2.30pm on Saturday.
