Pic of the Week: Balloons over Bagan by Ken Lindsay

Climbing one of the numerous temples at dawn to look across the Bagan plain made the early rise worthwhile.

Within this 40 square kilometre area bounded by the Irrawady River and lying in the very heart of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), 4000 ancient monuments were built between the 9th – 13th centuries of which 2000 remain.

As the sun rose and the mist dispersed, hot air balloons began to drift between the spires of the temples and pagodas.

With my Nikon 800E steady on a tripod and using a telephoto lens (200mm), an aperture of f/8.0 and a film speed of 100 ISO reproduced the optimal detail.

Undoubtedly one of the highlights of my holiday.
