Rallying call for cars and penny farthings

Organisers of the second annual Giffnock classic car rally are expecting it to be bigger than the inaugural rally last year — and it’s not too late to register your car.

A spokeswoman said: “We’re glad to say this year’s event will be even larger than last year’s. Classic cars will be lined up all across the Station car park.

“There will be cars of all shapes and sizes, age and model. And, with music, entertainment for the family and great local food, it promises to be a great day.

“We’re welcoming all types of cars to come along this year.”

It’s a chance to admire and appreciate the iconic roadsters of yesteryear and models that defined generations with motoring style and genious.

The cars will be the stars of the day but that’s not to say the entertainment ends there.

Paolo Martini, a tribute act to Glasgow’s favoured son, will entertain rally goers. There will be kiddiess rides to keep the children entertained and more entertainment at Whole Foods lower level car park, where vintage bicycles will be on display, and at Orchard Park Hotel, where there will be more music to enjoy.

Jugglers, stilt walkers and rickshaws will be here to add to the festivities.

With no irony intended, organisers warn that Giffnock Station car park will be closed to vehicles — and visitors are encouraged to walk or use public transport.

The festivities officially kick off next Saturday, September 5, from 1-5pm but early birds are welcome.
