Southside kids set for stardom

Youngsters from across the southside and East Ren are giving it their all at rehearsals ahead of star turns at the Theatre Royal this week.

The kids featured in The Extra recently after landing roles in Bugsy Malone, running at the city centre theatre this weekend.

Budding young stars aged 9-18 are there taking part in a two week summer masterclass, culminating in a performance of the 20s-set musical full of twists, turns, showgirls and splurge fights.

Our middle row of budding thesps includes Jamie Bogan (Strathbungo), Shakira O’Neill (Govanhill), Elliot McManus (Thornliebank, Anna Cowen and Connie Heron (Mount Florida) — with 15-year-old Anna, from Thornliebank, taking a lead role as Blousey Brown, thanks to her training with Harlequin Eastwood Theatre for Youth.

And down in front, there’s Robin Bull (Netherlee), Lilah Cowen (Thornliebank), Gabby Rose (Newton Mearns), Stewart Alexander (Clarkston) and Sam Lindsay (Strathbungo).
