Southside Souk returns this Saturday afternoon

This Saturday, May 16, the Old Barn at Pollok Park will come alive with the sounds, sights, colours and spicy aromas of an authentic north African marketplace as the Southside Souk returns from noon until 5pm full of eastern promise.

A Capoeira display from Cordao de Ouro. This Afro-Brazilian art form has its roots in slavery in Brazil and combines martial arts with dance and percussion.

For the kids, there’s storytelling for children from Betty Skelton and reggae calypso performance from Kaspar Hensel. There will be African sauces and spices from Palm Africa to tempt the palate as well as Indian reflexology, head massage and ceremonialHenna painting.

A herbalist walk explores the medicinal herbs of Pollok Park and a soundtrack of world music from DJ duo Shake it Sister as well as Second-hand books and homemade cakes from the South African book charity,
