The Avenue hosts two author events

Brookmyre will appear at Primavera in Newton Mearns on Monday 7-8.30pm — in association with Waterstone’s — to discuss his latest book, Bedlam.

The novel follows Ross Baker, an overworked scientist developing medical technology for corporate giant Neurosphere — but he’s rather be playing computer games than dealing with the trials and tribulations of working life.

The hero volunteers as a test candidate for new tech — but it’s a case of be careful what you wish for when he finds himself trapped in a childhood video game with no explanation and no way out.

The event is free, but booking with either Waterstone’s or Primavera Bistro is advisable.

The Avenue’s literary leanings continue on Wednesday, when broadcaster and author Sally Magnusson appears to discuss Where Memories Go.

The latest book is a memoir of Magnusson’s experiences while caring for her mother, who struggled with dementia until her death in 2012.

She said: “This book began as an attempt to hold on to my witty, storytelling mother with the one thing I had to hand: words.

“Then, as the enormity of the social crisis my family was part of began to dawn, I wrote with the thought that other forgotten lives might be nudged into the light along with hers.

“Dementia is one the greatest social, medical, economic, scientific, philosophical and moral challenges of our times. I am a reporter and it became the biggest story of my life.”

Sally Magnusson will be at Primavera from 7-8.30pm for another free event.
