The Scottish SPCA is extending the opening hours of its centre in Lanarkshire to give more Cumbernauld and Kilsyth residents the opportunity to rehome a pet.

The animal welfare charity will open its doors to the public from 10am to 7pm every Thursday between June 5 and September 25.

Staff at the centre, based on Bothwell Road in Hamilton, hope this will increase the number of people able to meet the many animals there.

Centre manager Peter Fleming said: “Our centre is the first to trial the extended opening hours which is very exciting.

“We always have a wide variety of pets looking for new homes, from dogs, cats and rabbits to small rodents, birds and exotic creatures such as terrapins and snakes.”
