After entering a competition run by Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS) to spend the day with Scottish actor Sam Heughan, the lucky winners visited the set of Outlander, in which Heughan plays a lead role.

Sam (patron of YTAS) launched the contest at the National Festival of Youth Theatre last month, via video-link.

The winners, from all over Scotland, spent the day watching the filming taking place on two vast sound stages at the purpose-built Cumbernauld studio.

They also enjoyed a tour led by Sam Heughan himself, visiting armoury, prosthetics, costume and props departments.

The series - a time travel romp through the dark and bloody side of Scottish history - has already launched in the USA, where it has generated massive interest.

Meanwhile the production has fuelled hopes that Cumbernauld could become a Scottish centre of excellence for similar projects in future.

“We are grateful to our Patron Sam Heughan for making this visit possible.”
