Window to the Past: birds-eye view

Looking west from the multi-storey flat at 232 Shawbridge Street 1966 Three buses on Barrhead Road are heading towards Pollok after passing under the recently completed second span of the railway bridge.

Note on the extreme left the new masonry of the abutments. Cunningham’s Garage (Pollokshaws Motors) has been part demolished.

The former Eastwood Parish Church hall, the light coloured building too, will disappear with the road widening and roundabout scheme.

Pollokshaws Bowling Club’s clubhouse is at lower right, and the new Pollok Golf Club clubhouse can be seen among the trees above it.

Kennishead Road still has to be realigned from The West to join Barrhead Road at the lone tree near the left hand edge. To the left of the new bridge is the office of Frame’s Carriers.

Looming in the distance are the Gleniffer Braes. The bar at bottom right is the top of the balcony railing.
