Window to the Past: Bridge Street

We have all grown up recognising Central Station as the main terminal in Glasgow for trains.

However, before Central Station was created, this building with its chimneys and dormer windows housed the city’s main rail terminal for traffic from the south.

It had an arched entrance leading to the booking hall as well as shops and stairways at each end leading up to platforms — which were at a high level.

Part of this distinguished old building survives to this day
