Window to the Past: Methodist church 1961

The present church was constructed in the mid 1960s behind the old building and this one was demolished to make way for road improvements.

At upper right, the dark Jubilee building in the gushet between Harriet Street and Shawbridge Street was of a truncated ‘v’ ground plan.

In the façade that looked down Shawbridge Street before World War II there was a restaurant, The Jubilee, from which the building took its name.

The curved shadow at lower right is the edge of the round toll roof.
