Window to the Past: Nether Auldhouse Farm c1900

Note the step again and the thick handle as an aid for climbing up, and the barrels with taps and the primitive splash guard above the wheel.

This was probably taken at the end of the deliveries as according to the angle of the sun it is after midday in high summer.

Ahead of him the farm track takes a dog-leg to the left and runs off to the east behind the hedge at the foot of Hillpark towards the Kilmarnock Road and Merrylee. Kale was harvested and stored mainly to feed cattle in winter.

The two carts in the photos last week and this week would have covered different districts.
