Window to the Past: Pollokshaws West

This is looking down Pollokshaws Road from The West to Afton Terrace with its gable well covered with advertisements, and Pollok Academy and its clock tower.

On the right with the Cross Street name-plate is a corner of the first Pollokshaws Methodist Church. The curious small light coloured roughcast structure at the back edge of the pavement at the church was a gent’s toilet erected initially to be used by transport department employees when the tram terminus was here.

All except Afton Terrace was demolished within a few years. The replacement for the church building was built on the site beyond the old one.
