With the publication of the guide’s 26th annual edition, ten venues across both cities have been highlighted by the reviewers, editors and readers of the guide as the most exciting and essential places of the past 12 months to uncover great food and drink.
The annual Birra Moretti Readers’ Awards saw thousands of readers voting online for their favourite dining venue in each city.
And Battlefield Rest won the Glasgow poll.
The Southside favourite has been serving Italian food for 25 years in an elegant former tram stop waiting room.
Staff from the restaurant were invited to The Arches in Glasgow for an evening to celebrate the new edition of The List and to announce the winner.
The Scotch Beef Club invited its chef Marino to have a cookery demonstration and to cook one of its recepies on the night.
Owner Marco Giannasi said: “We have been in a the final a few times in the past and to receive this award is just fantastic!
“To consider how may places there are in Glasgow and to be voted by the public as their favourite place it has been an amazing feeling for all of us at the Rest, how better to celebrate our 25 years in business than to receive this great award.
“It’s all about having a great team of quality chefs and front of house that with their hard work has made this happen.
“The support we have received from our customers, friends, neighbours and, not to forget the readers from The Extra, has been tremendous. Grazie Mille!”
Two eateries in Govanhill also feature in the Eating and Drinking Guide.
Justin Valmassoi’s tiny 14-seat diner Nanika on the Victoria Road is evidence that exciting dining often arrives in small packages, with his passionate take on South-east Asian street food.
Also on the Victoria Road, Locavore is a dynamic community-oriented food project that has expanded into bigger, better, busier premises in the past year with a café and organic grocery shop.
