Bid for Credit Union in Carluke

MEMBERS of Carluke Community Council have taken the first tentative steps in organising a new Credit Union for the town.

A letter was sent to the Community Council over its summer break and the concept of having such a facility in the town met with a positive response from members.

Community Council chairman Alistair Mackie has invited Dermod O’Neill, the chief executive of the Scottish League of Credit Unions, to speak at an upcoming Community Council meeting.

Alistair said: “If the response is a positive one then we would have a community consultation with other local groups to see if we could work together to get it off the ground.”
