Carlaw becomes Apprentice for the Day with The Busby Hotel

Apprentices alongside the management team at the Busby Hotel shared their knowledge of the hospitality industry with Jackson Carlaw MSP as part of the national '˜Apprentice for the Day' initiative.

The Busby Hotel provides award winning wedding venue services as well as running a popular local restaurant and hotel.

The ‘Apprentice for the Day’ challenge sees MSPs shadow apprentices with a Scottish employer and aims to raise awareness of the contribution which apprentices make to Scotland’s economy.

MSPs who participate in a challenge will nominate others to take part, to keep the initiative moving forward.

During the visit, Mr Carlaw learned about the overall setup of the restaurant and how the smaller component parts such as service, the bar and other elements make the restaurant a success. The Eastwood MSP was also put through barista training and made other drinks from scratch, including cocktails and lemonade.

Commenting Jackson Carlaw MSP said: “This was an absolutely first class experience at one of Eastwood’s premier businesses.

“Thanks to Skills Development Scotland and The Busby Hotel for organising and taking me through my paces on the day.

“From better understanding the operation of the restaurant to being trained up in the art of making a decent coffee and other drinks, I really was immersed in all the day to day work that an apprentice would be.

“I shall be continuing to support this excellent initiative and nominate my parliamentary colleague Paul Masterton MP to get in on the act - I doubt he’ll also be able to secure a 10/10 for his barista skills!”
