Cumbernauld restaurant to shut

Cumbernauld’s branch of Pizza Hut is among the 29 earmarked for closure across the United Kingdom, it has emerged.

The South Muirfield Road premises is just one out of two Scottish outlets to be selected for a shutdown, with the other being at the Great Western Retail Park in Drumchapel.

Pizza Hut is the latest of a raft of town-centre based dining chains to launch a company voluntary arrangement restructuring deal to avoid collapse.

The company said it has put forward the proposals as “sales are not expected to fully bounce back until well into 2021” despite a quick and safe reopening of sites.

A company spokesperson said: ”We understand this is a difficult time for everyone involved.

“We are doing everything we can to help our team members during this process, including speaking with those affected by the consultation.”
