East Renfrewshire businesses benefit from £6.42 million in coronavirus support funding

As of this week (May 1), East Renfrewshire Council, which is administering the Coronavirus Business Support Fund funds locally, had received 711 applications with 540 grants (75 per cent) now awarded totalling £6.42 million.

These grants were announced by the Scottish Government in March as part of a range of measures designed to support businesses through the coronavirus crisis.

The small business grant fund, which gives out a maximum of £10,000, has received 612 applications, with 472 awarded to date, providing support of £4.72 million.

For the £25,000 retail, hospitality and leisure fund there have been 99 applications, with 68 awards already made to the value of £1.7 million.

A newly self-employed hardship fund was announced this week and will provide £2000 in support to those not able to access other schemes.

Council Leader Tony Buchanan said: “Getting this financial assistance to local businesses is critical to our local economy during these difficult times and I thank our teams for their support in administering these vital funds as quickly as possible. I encourage any businesses who may be eligible for financial support to apply.”
