Fashion retailer rumoured to be interested in taking over Homebase unit

Rumours are circling in the area that fashion store Primark is set to takeover the Homebase unit in Pollokshaws.

The DIY and garden store in Auldhouse Retail Park is one of 10 Scottish stores set to close late 2018 or early 2019.

Primark has three stores in Glasgow – Sauchiehall Stree, Argyle Street and Forge Shopping Centre, Parkhead.

The store has not yet confirmed or denied the rumours.

Homebase is closing the stores via a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA), a controversial insolvency procedure used by struggling firms to shut under-performing shops.

The company said that the process will “lead to a reduction of up to 1,500 roles”, adding that “every effort will be made to redeploy team members within the business where possible.”
