Lanark needs a brand-new image

This appeal was made at the end of what must have been the biggest ‘summit’ meeting ever held on the town’s economy.

The ‘brainstorming’ meeting in the Clydesdale Inn was hosted by the Lanark Business Group and the bodies invited along ranged from the Lanimer Committee to the town’s Museum Trust.

All had one thing in common - a desire to improve Lanark.rharris

The chairman of the Business Group, Alastair Brooks, kicked the meeting off by explaining: “We called this meeting because folk think there are too many different bodies around Lanark doing their own thing.

“We want to try to get everyone together in one room so that others can hear what they are doing and possibly see ways they can co-operate with each other.”

He added that one of the ways all Lanark’s different bodies, businesses and individuals could encourage a single-minded effort was to come up with a ‘Lanark Brand’ in the form of a slogan and logo which would be a focus for the joint efforts.
