M&S Simply Food signs up

M&S Simply Food has announced its support for the development and a new outlet would join Aldi and Home Bargains among the first tenants at the centre.

Today, North Lanarkshire planning officials will review the proposed layout of the centre.

M&S wrote to the committee to show their support for the plans, and the council’s website has seen a flurry of comments from members of the public, all of them in favour of the plans.

The project is being led by Bryan Wilson, development director at L&S Broadwood which is a subsidiary of London and Scottish Investments.

Bryan said: “We are delighted that M&S Simply Food is coming to join Aldi and Home Bargains, as it clearly demonstrates that Westfield is a food oriented development which is what the planners wanted.

“Around 30 per cent of Home Bargains’ Range is groceries and when combined with the other two High Street giants it means almost 50 per cent of our floor space is let to food retailers.”

Mr Wilson added: “We very much hope that the members of the planning committee recognise that it is a ‘Now Development’.”

The site is also planned to feature four other retail units, as well as a pub and drive through coffee shop.
