As part of a £3m programme of investments to get South Lanarkshire’s economy working, the council’s recent budget included a new tourism cooperative and tourism strategy.

The third strand of the Get South Lanarkshire Working Programme will support the establishment and initial three-year running costs of a membership led tourism cooperative and development of an ambitious and far-reaching tourism strategy.

Ms Campbell said: “I am pleased to see this commitment from the council’s budget announced to tourism.

"I have long championed, alongside many in our local tourism sector, the potential of Clydesdale as a place to visit and enjoy.

"Everyone involved with the Clydesdale Tourism Group has done great work in bringing forward their ideas and in advancing the interests of our constituency.

“The establishment of a tourism cooperative gives us much to build on and progress.

"It brings a strategic focus to address the challenges that lie ahead and create real opportunities, linking together the different strands of Clydesdale’s tourism offering and creating new employment opportunities through our recovery from Covid-19.”
