North Lanarkshire libraries to remain in lockdown

Libraries in Cumbernauld, Condorrat and Kilsyth will not re-open tomorrow (Wednesday) after council bosses admitted they are unable to operate them at this point.

Bookworms across Scotland can experience a staggered return to normal service after lockdowns were eased in some local authorities.

However, North Lanarkshire Council will not be among them.

A spokesperson explained “There are arrangements we need to make in order to ensure we reopen safely.

“We will let our customers know as soon as we can when we will be in a position to reopen our libraries safely.

“ In the interim we will continue to renew all outstanding items out on loan so our customers are not incurring any fines.”

Meanwhile it emerged that one staff member who has written a novel about Cumbernauld that we flagged up earlier this year is contending with a delay of his own.

Paul Gillon who writes under the pen name Kirkland Ciccone will now not see his novel ‘Happiness is Wasted on Me’ published until October.

However Paul, who mainly writes for young adults, is undaunted and has written another novel during lockdown!
