Paying tribute as credit union celebrates 40th

The credit union began from humble beginnings in the back kitchen of the home of local man Robert Wilson and has now grown to have its own purpose-built office in High Street, Newarthill.

Mr Lyle lodged three motions in the Scottish Parliament in recognition not only of the work done by the credit union, but also about the selfless service over many decades by two exceptional volunteers Bobby Lees and Rose Reilly.

The motions are available to view on the Scottish Parliament Website under Mr Lyle’s name and they have attracted support from Members of the Scottish Parliament across the country and indeed across all parties.

This tribute proceeds Mr Lyle’s forthcoming remarks at the Scottish League of Credit Unions: 25th Anniversary Conference later this month.

At this he shall take a further opportunity to recognise the important role which credit unions like Newarthill play in delivering local financial services and supporting many families and communities throughout areas in Scotland.

Mr Lyle said: “I was absolutely delighted to lodge motions to the Scottish Parliament to recognise the selfless volunteering done by Bobby and Rose, particularly as Newarthill Credit Union celebrate their 40th anniversary. “Visiting them last week was fantastic and being able to present them with framed editions of their motion was a great way of marking their service and I know that the Newarthill Credit Union will be continuing to celebrate not only Bobby and Rose’s work, but the work of the credit union throughout their anniversary year.

“I look forward to speaking at the Scottish League of Credit Unions’ 25th Anniversary Conference later in the month; where I will most definitely take the opportunity to celebrate the work done by the Newarthill Credit Union – a shining example from within our own constituency and to once again pay tribute to all those involved in their fantastic work.”
