Post Office confirms efforts to restore postal services to Clarkston

Post Office bosses have confirmed with Jackson Carlaw MSP that they are actively working to find a solution that can restore postal services to Clarkston after the postmaster at Sheddens resigned.

In an email to the Eastwood MSP, the Post Office have said they are looking to find out if there are any potential new agents who would consider taking on the postmaster role following the resignation of McColls and the opportunity is being advertised on their website.

The Post Office are also assessing what other possible options might be available in returning postal services to the local area.

This includes the possibility of putting in place a mobile solution for nearby villages and towns and assessing whether there is scope to establish a Post Office branch or outreach.

Eastwood has experienced a number of post office closures in recent years including twice at Sheddens, The Avenue, Broomvale and Eaglesham.

Mr Carlaw has made representations to the Post Office to express his serious concern at the reduction of postal services in Eastwood and emphasised that finding a solution to the closure at Sheddens must be treated as a matter of priority.

Postal services at Sheddens are to cease from 8pm on Sunday, September 6.
