£18m in grants given out to help East Dunbartonshire businesses

Grants worth more than £18.2 million have been processed to help support local businesses through the Covid pandemic, says East Dunbartonshire Council.

The Council and Business Gateway East Dunbartonshire say they are continuing to receive applications, calls and queries from a wide range of local firms and enterprises.

From November 2020 to 12 February 2021, the Council paid out 1,279 Business Temporary Closure Fund grants and 162 Business Restrictions Fund grants.

That makes a total of £1,705,500 (Scottish Government Strategic Framework Business Funding - to 12 February 2021).

There have also been 412 Top-Up Funding grants for hospitality, retail and leisure businesses - totalling £2,655,000 and 320 Taxi and Private Hire Driver Support Fund grants totalling £480,000.

Between November 2020 and 12 February 2021, the Council processed 2,173 grants - totalling £4,840,500 - providing vital support to local businesses.

That included 655 grants - £2,328,750 - in the space of a fortnight.

As part of earlier Scottish Government Covid-19 support packages, the Council paid out 1,414 grants with a total value of £13,455,715.

That is a total of £18,296,215 - some 3,587 grants - for local firms, traders and job providers.

In addition, the Council's Discretionary Business Fund opened for applications on Wednesday (17 February) - aimed at supporting those ineligible for other forms of Scottish Government business grant support introduced since October 2020.

A one-off grant of £4,000 is available to eligible businesses.

Councillor Andre w Polson, Joint Leader of the Council, said: "The huge volume of business grants issued is testament to the massive amount of work being carried out behind the scenes by a variety of Council departments."
