Step forward for Govanhill Baths refurbishment project

Govanhill Baths has been awarded more than £2 million for it’s refurbishment project.

It will make up part of the £6.5m needed to turn the baths, which were sold to Govanhill Building Preservation Trust by Glasgow City Council for £1.

The £2,150,000 funding boost from the Regional Capital Growth Fund will help the restoration of the nineteenth century former public bath house to its original function, as well as community events space and facilities.

Community campaigners have fought for years to turn Govanhill Baths into an asset for the area after it was closed in 2001 by Glasgow City Council.

Councillor Soryia Siddique said: “I’m delighted that Govanhill Baths has been awarded £2,150,000 RCGF grant award towards the refurbishment project. This is significant towards achieving the long term aspirations to reopen the Baths as as Wellbeing Centre.”
