The head of Stuarts Coaches stressed in the strongest possible terms to the Gazette that the firm is NOT on the verge of collapse and has NOT, as the “rumour mill” suggests, already issued redundancy notices to its near-100-strong workforce at its Castlehill base.

Company director Stuart Shevill was reacting to a Gazette inquiry following the speculation over the company’s future being raised at a meeting of Lanark Community Council.

“Unfortunately, some of our own drivers saw this and believed it. Two have actually left to go to another company!”
