But the change only applies to residents who pay by debit and credit cards, cash or cheque.

The new due date for payments is the first of each month from April until January, 10 monthly instalments.

But residents who opt to pay by direct debit can choose to pay on one of four dates: the 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th of the month.

Head of financial services Paul Hughes said: “Direct debit is by far the most efficient and cost effective method for the council to collect payments and it is the simplest for residents too.”
